The Hanoi Times - The New York Philharmonic, one of the oldest and most world-renowned symphony orchestras in the US, will perform for the first time in Vietnam in September as part of its tour of Asia
The New York Philharmonic'sConductor, Alan Gilbert, said on June 4 that performing in Vietnam has been a dream for many of the orchestra’s members since orchestra representatives made a fact-finding trip to the country last year. During its stay in Vietnam, the 106-strong orchestra will perform at the Hanoi Opera House. The New York Philharmonic is the oldest active symphony orchestra in the US, organised during 1842. Based in New York City, the Philharmonic performs most of its concerts at Avery Fisher Hall. It is one of the five American orchestras commonly referred to as the "Big Five". The orchestra is older than any other American symphonic institution in existence by nearly four decades; its record-setting 14,000th concert was given in December 2004. The NYP has played 14,000 concerts in 59 countries and 422 cities across the world.
