Capital city to open spring festival on Tet holiday

The Spring Festival Thang Long–Ha Noi 2010

The Hanoi Times - The Spring Festival Thang Long-Hanoi 2010 under the theme “The magnanimity of Thang Long – the spirit of the nation” will be a combination of traditional fold festivals, cultural, sports and tourist activities.

According to the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the festival will be opened at 9 AM o­n February 20 (7th day of the Lunar New Year) in Dinh Tien Hoang Street in the heart of Hanoi City.

The event consists of three parts. The first o­ne, “Thang Long – the thousand-year spirit of the Vietnamese nation” with drum and gong performance will open the festival.

Part 2 is the “Incense offering rituals” in memory of Emperor Ly Thai To and other forefathers who made great contributions to the country and Hanoi.

The national solidarity will be highlighted in Part 3 entitled “The glorious epoch of Ho Chi Minh” and “Thousand-year Thang Long–Hanoi toward the future”  with a parade of national flags, red banners, portrait of President Ho Chi Minh, and representatives of 54 ethnic groups in Vietnam.

The Spring Festival Thang Long-Hanoi 2010 will open the festival season in the capital city, which lasts until the end of the 1st quarter.
